What is Row for Kids?

– – – – –

Row for Kids is a partnership event, raising money for the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation and the Edmonton Rowing Club. Teams train over the course of the summer with a volunteer coach from the Edmonton Rowing Club. The regatta is held at Telford Lake in Leduc in September each year. Row for Kids is a great team building opportunity and a fabulous introduction to the sport of rowing. To date, Row for Kids has raised over $1.4 million!

How it works

– – – – –

Everyone can join Row for Kids – whether you have rowing experience or are new to the sport. The Edmonton Rowing Club’s volunteer coaches work with teams to prepare them for the regatta and develop skills.

Get a team together

– – – – –

Teams need a minimum of eight people to row, plus (ideally) two spares. Each team needs to include at least two men and two women. Teams can include co-workers, family and friends. Teams pay an entry fee of $1,800 to cover training and regatta expenses.

Train together

– – – – –

Training takes place once per week over eight weeks at the Edmonton Rowing Club’s facilities on the beautiful North Saskatchewan River. Training starts in July and each session is about 1.5 hours.

Raise money

– – – – –

Each team is asked to raise $2,500. Most teams raise much more than this knowing the benefit of the cause and in 2017, the average was more than $7,600 per team. Fundraising ideas, toolkits and pledge sheets are provided. You can monitor and co-ordinate your fundraising through the Row for Kids website (see below). Seventy-five per cent of the funds go directly to the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation. Past donations have been used to purchase (need to get this information from the Stollery) and helps kids to receive specialized medical care right here in Edmonton. Twenty-five per cent supports the Edmonton Rowing Club’s youth and amateur sport programs.

Race together

The Row for Kids Regatta is held in September each year and takes place at Telford Lake in Leduc – one of the best rowing venues on the prairies. It’s a day of family fun with lots of activities for the kids. Be sure to bring your cheering section!
